Researchers at Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health at the University of California, San Francisco, have been working collaboratively with the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation (PIRE), the Public Health Institute (PHI), and Penn State College of Medicine to assess intended and unintended effects of state-level policies related to alcohol use during pregnancy (such as policies mandating the reporting of pregnant people who use alcohol to government authorities and posting of signs warning about harms of drinking during pregnancy) and state-level general population alcohol policies (such as alcohol tax policies). Findings from this study will be used as a basis for evidence-informed policy decision making as well as professional education efforts with health professionals.
